Principle

The ESEGAS Syngas Analyzer IR-GAS-600 continuously measures the main components of synthesis gas, including CO, CO₂, CH₄, H₂, O₂, and optional CnHm. It combines different sensing technologies according to the physical properties of each target gas. For carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), the analyzer uses Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) technology. For methane (CH₄), the analyzer uses TDLAS technology. Hydrogen (H₂) part uses a compensated Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD). Moreover, oxygen (O₂) part can use an electrochemical sensor or an optional paramagnetic sensor. By integrating these sensing technologies into one analyzer, the system can simultaneously and continuously determine syngas composition and provide real-time data for gasification control, combustion optimization, safety monitoring, and syngas quality management.

 FAQ for ESEGAS Syngas Analyzer

1. What is a Syngas Analyzer and why is it important in gasification systems?

A syngas analyzer is an online gas analysis instrument used to continuously measure the composition of synthesis gas (syngas) produced from coal, biomass, waste, or other gasification processes.
Real-time syngas analysis is critical for controlling gasification efficiency, combustion stability, and overall process safety.

The ESEGAS Syngas Analyzer provides continuous monitoring of key syngas components to help operators optimize gasifier performance and energy output.

2. What gases can the ESEGAS Syngas Analyzer measure in syngas?

The ESEGAS syngas gas analyzer can simultaneously measure:

CH₄, H₂, CO, CO₂, O₂, and CnHm

In addition, N₂ concentration and syngas heating value (calorific value) can be calculated automatically based on measured gas composition.

3. What technology is used in the ESEGAS online Syngas Analyzer?

The analyzer combines multiple advanced sensing technologies to ensure accurate syngas monitoring:

  • TDLAS for CH₄ and CnHm
  • NDIR for CO and CO₂
  • TCD for H₂ with compensation against interference
  • Paramagnetic or Electrochemical sensor for O₂

This multi-technology design ensures stable performance in complex syngas environments.

4. What is the difference between a Syngas Analyzer and a Gas Chromatograph (GC)?

A gas chromatograph provides accurate laboratory analysis but requires long analysis time and frequent maintenance.

An online syngas analyzer provides:

  • Real-time continuous monitoring
  • Faster response time
  • Lower maintenance
  • Direct integration with PLC/DCS systems
  • For most gasification plants, an online syngas analyzer is more suitable for process control than GC.

5. Can the Syngas Analyzer work with syngas containing moisture, tar, and dust?

Yes. The ESEGAS syngas analysis system can be equipped with a gas conditioning system to remove moisture, tar, and dust before the gas enters the analyzer.
This ensures reliable long-term operation even in harsh gasification conditions.

6. What types of Syngas Analyzers does ESEGAS provide?

ESEGAS provides:

  • Online fixed syngas analyzer for 24/7 continuous monitoring
  • Portable syngas analyzer for field testing and multi-point measurement
  • Online syngas analysis system with integrated gas conditioning

7. How to choose the right Syngas Analyzer for a gasification project?

Selection depends on:

  • Syngas cleanliness (moisture, tar, dust content)
  • Gas temperature and pressure
  • Need for continuous monitoring or portable measurement
  • Installation environment and sampling distance

ESEGAS can customize the syngas monitoring solution based on project conditions.

8. What are the typical applications of an online Syngas Analyzer?

The ESEGAS syngas analyzer is widely used in:

  • Biomass gasification plants
  • Coal gasification systems
  • Waste-to-energy and pyrolysis plants
  • Steel and metallurgy processes
  • IGCC power plants
  • Chemical synthesis processes

9. How is the Syngas Analyzer connected to PLC or DCS systems?

The analyzer supports:

  • 4–20 mA analog output
  • RS485 / Modbus communication

This allows seamless integration into industrial automation systems for real-time syngas monitoring.

10. How does real-time syngas monitoring improve gasification efficiency?

Continuous syngas composition analysis allows operators to:

  • Adjust air/fuel ratio in real time
  • Improve combustion efficiency
  • Reduce fuel consumption
  • Detect abnormal conditions early
  • Optimize calorific value output

This directly reduces operating cost and improves plant stability.

11. Does the Syngas Analyzer require frequent maintenance or calibration?

No. The ESEGAS syngas analyzer is designed for long-term stable operation with minimal maintenance.
Routine calibration is simple and sensor lifetime is long compared to traditional analytical methods.

12. Can ESEGAS provide customized or OEM Syngas Analyzer solutions?

Yes. As an OEM/ODM manufacturer, ESEGAS can customize:

  • Gas components
  • Measurement ranges
  • Gas conditioning systems

Enclosure and installation type to meet different gasification project requirements.
